Erased Women in South Asia

Female infanticide is the intentional murder or killing of female babies due to the preference of males. There is a lack of income, education, jobs, and resources available to girls. These are the root causes of gender disparities and female infanticide in South Asia. With the limited opportunities, women/girls are not financially profitable to their families and depend on them for survival. Societal circumstances, culture, and religion, among other factors, have shaped many families' perceptions to prioritize their sons over daughters. The population gap between males and females, the higher mortality rate of women, and selective sex abortions are prevalent issues in South Asia. The objective of this editorial is to educate readers about female infanticide in South Asia. This issue is usually overlooked in the West and does not garner wide spread attention.
